I’m not sure where I’d be without sensual domination. It is one panacea for living a boring, stale existence. I tend to consider how often others get to experience sensuality in general, let alone sensual domination. Many spend their lives rushing. Many spend their time online watching others supposedly live theirs, wishing their own lived up to the highlight reels—which are themselves curations, often driven by trends moving through the collective psyche.
There’s nothing wrong with watching reels or films, or seeking out works of art—whether we simply enjoy them or allow them to inspire us. We get to be consumers just as much as creators.
The best creations breathe sensuality into our lives, but only when we integrate what they awaken in us. A profound encounter means little if we leave it where we found it. Integration is what allows it to become part of the way we live. And this is how sensual domination has shifted beyond something I facilitate as a dominatrix, into a way I live My life on the whole.
In this way, I think BDSM can be comparable to a psychedelic experience: the experience itself may be profound, but what becomes of it depends partly on whether we integrate what it revealed.

If I am truly doing The Goddess’s work I came to earth to do as a dominatrix, as a sex priestess, then I hope the experiences I facilitate create positive changes in those who submit to Me. One of those changes may be tapping into one’s innate sensuality and sensual relationship with the universe. The human experience involves both the spiritual and the material, and the material includes extraordinary gifts: having senses, becoming aware of our desires and aversions, and getting to explore and work with them.
For Me, developing both My spirituality and sexuality has created a more fulfilling and connected life. Sacred sexuality is not everyone’s dharma, nor does it need to be. Walk your path. And you—you’re still here reading, now aren’t you?
It’s hard for Me to stop rolling My eyes at how many people still assume BDSM is just hardcore. Some submissives who reach out to book for the first time with Me assume it too.
“I don’t care for insults. For me, it is a kink and I would like to enjoy it not as a punishment, but as a perverse pleasure, if that works for you.”
Yes, that does work for Me. I don’t always need to put My subs in an extreme scene for them to get into the state they are wanting to get into.
People tend to be far more curious about the “extreme” things I’ve gotten up to than the sensual. And while I love cruel and harsh scenes—and am good at them—I also love more sensual ones, possibly even more so at this stage in life. I have a huge need for variety, so I offer all kinds of tones. But this piece is devoted to the art of sensual domination.

What Is Sensual Domination?
Sensual domination is the intentional orchestration of sensation within a power exchange, using presence, surrender and attunement to draw the submissive more deeply into their body and the present moment.
At its heart, it is about tapping into your senses and guiding another person into theirs. It is about enticing and heightening them. Taking your time is a must. Speed may arise naturally, but it is never forced simply because someone is rushing toward an outcome. There is build-up. There is a giver and a receiver, and something happens between them that pulls both more deeply into the experience of the now.
Being a receiver isn’t exclusive to the submissive, either. The Dominant can very well also be receiving sensations while topping their bottom. If I am spanking My submissive, for example, My hand is feeling the impact too, only in another way. I am giving the sensation while simultaneously experiencing sensation Myself. And boy do I love it! Giver and receiver can overlap even while the power dynamic remains intact.
Sensual domination is often described as a style of domination that emphasizes pleasure and reward over pain and punishment. And while that certainly describes much of it, I don’t think sensuality necessarily ends where pain begins. Pain is sensation, too. And sometimes, some things just hurt so good! Ya know? Hehe. For Me, sensual domination is less about limiting which sensations belong and more about the way I bring a submissive into them: with invitation, presence and attunement.

Domination is domination. The sensual approach pays particular attention to the experience of : the senses, sensation, pleasure, the somatic, the erotic, the environment, anticipation, pacing, energy, and all the tiny details that make an experience something you inhabit rather than merely something you do. Touch may be the most obvious avenue, but sensuality is hardly limited to touch. Sight, sound, scent and taste can all become part of the composition, as can temperature, texture, pressure, restraint, movement and stillness. Sensual, after all, means sensory.
It’s the difference between cooking because you need to eat and preparing a meal with such attention that you notice the scent released when you tear the herbs, the sound of something hitting the hot pan, the texture changing beneath your fingers, the colors on the plate, the first taste on your tongue. The ingredients may be identical, but the experience is not. A meal slapped together and plated like slop will taste entirely different from one prepared and presented with care, even when the ingredients are the same.
Presence, Surrender & Attunement
To Me, three qualities sit at the heart of sensual domination: presence, surrender and attunement. Presence brings us into the experience. Surrender allows the experience to affect us. Attunement connects us to what is actually happening rather than what we decided beforehand should happen. This is especially important for the Dominant. I may be leading, but I am also listening—to your breathing, your body, your sounds, your energy, the places you tense and the places you soften. I am continually receiving information and allowing it to inform where I take you next.
Say I take you on a journey of sensation play. I will guide you into another realm where your thoughts begin to slow down and you relax into the touch of My fingers, the slap of My hand, the kiss of My flogger. And I don’t only want you to have a great journey inside My chambers. What happens when you leave?
My hope is that instead of compartmentalizing the experience, you begin noticing sensations throughout the rest of your day. The vibration of your car beneath you. It swishing against the wind as you drive and then halting when you stop. Water gliding down your skin in the shower. The smell of gardenias outside your door. The speed and taste of something dissolving on your tongue. The way your head sinks into your pillow. Rain tapping the window when there is absolutely no need to drown it out with music.
Sensual domination brings you into the pure experience of something. The more you tap into it somatically instead of merely thinking about it, the deeper the meditation goes. Anything can be a meditation too. But I will say that the more I practiced sitting meditation, the more easily I began to recognize opportunities to enter the moment everywhere else. As My bhikku would say, “there is no substitution for sitting meditation.” It retrains you. The most mundane things can become magical.

Life Can Sensually Dominate You
Life can sensually dominate us, if we let it. The Goddess’s energy runs through all things.
Nature has sensually dominated Me more times than I could possibly count. I love walking outside after it rains and smelling the sap coming from the trees, seeing how hydrated everything looks, especially in the mountains of very dry Colorado. A hot spring really sensually dominates Me too. A work of art can overwhelm Me with joy. So does My lover when he devotes himself to worshipping Me.
Sometimes I don’t want music playing because the sound already occurring around Me is far more interesting. Like right now I want to hear My clothes tapping the sides of the dryer as they spin around. I used to have music on often, drowning all this out. For many of us, silence—or what we call silence—is too unbearable, too boring. Sometimes I cringe at certain sounds around Me. I’m neurodivergent and hypersensitive all around. Then I choose the perspective that what’s happening is a meditation.
Alan Watts spoke often about simply listening to the sounds around us. Give it a try. “Simply close your eyes, and allow your ears to hear all sounds around you. Don’t try to name or identify the sounds, just hear them as you would listen to music.”

Learning to Receive
Start with your senses and you will find countless examples of how the universe is sensually dominating you. The trouble is that many people have become remarkably skilled at not receiving. We rush. We dissociate. We distract ourselves. We remain hypervigilant and controlling. We fear surrender. We are outcome-oriented. We have poor sensory awareness because we rarely practice sensory awareness. We want to get somewhere rather than experience what is happening on the way there.
You cannot receive much when you are bracing against experience. This is one of the things submission can teach us.
There is a beautiful reciprocity within submission: while the submissive is learning to receive, their submission is itself something being offered—and something the Dominant must know how to receive.

The Honor of Receiving Someone’s Submission
One of the things I love so much about being a Dominatrix is getting to curate an experience for My submissives. How often do people truly get to receive such an experience? I can tell you I waited many years for some of Mine.
Many project stigma onto Me as a sex worker while having absolutely no idea what I get to witness, facilitate and sometimes transform. A submissive gives Me their submission. That is an honor.
Submission involves trust, and trust is a choice. It is choosing, within boundaries, to say yes to an experience, to guidance, and to not knowing every second of what comes next. The submissive therefore teaches Me something too. They remind Me of the courage involved in surrendering, letting go and trusting another person enough to receive.
Through years of doing this I have learned that being entrusted with another person’s vulnerability changes the Dominant, too. When someone places themselves in My care, I am not unaffected by that trust. Their vulnerability asks Me to become worthy of the trust placed in Me. Especially so when, let’s face it, I have facilitated hundreds of the same requests by different people over the years. It could be real easy to be desensitized.

The Beginner’s Mind of an Experienced Sensual Domme
So how do I spice things up? Because if I am being brutally honest—My baby domme days where everything was new and novel are over. I am experienced and, with experience, comes wisdom I didn’t have as a baby domme. Ah, it is very bittersweet!
It’s a version of what happens in relationships when the “NRE”—New Relationship Energy, as it’s called in polyamory—wears off. Novelty once did some of the work for you. What happens when it doesn’t anymore?
Well, I have had to do a lot of sacred sexual inner work to ask Myself how I can still make things pleasurable, genuine, and expansive for all parties involved.
What I am discovering is that intimacy can only keep changing and evolving when we devote to it with a beginner’s mind, aka shoshin (Japanese: 初心)—the practice of approaching what is before us with fresh eyes, curiosity and openness, rather than assuming we already know.
In fact, expertise can become its own obstacle when it makes you think you already know what an experience, request or person is going to be. Beginner’s mind asks Me to let the experience in front of Me be this experience, rather than one of the hundreds I have facilitated before it. This particular exchange with the person in front of Me has never happened before.
The same is true in our intimate relationships. When we cling to assumptions about our partner/s, we box them in. We think we already know what they like. The touch that was once electric fades because we stop experiencing it as something happening now. Intimacy requires being in the present moment with our partner.

The Gift of Being Witnessed
Only when we are truly present with another person can we perceive what they are actually asking to receive from us. And sometimes what someone needs more than anything is the opportunity to stop directing. Many who come to Me are in control everywhere in their lives. They make decisions, lead, manage, perform. They take care of others. Then they enter My realm and, for a little while, somebody else is paying attention. Somebody else is orchestrating and holding the container.
They get to receive. And they get to be witnessed.
That last part is terribly underrated. Sometimes you want another human being there: an instigator, a participant, a witness to the part of you that would otherwise be neglected. That is part of what sex workers give people that those who stigmatize us often have absolutely no concept of.
Sex doesn’t even need to be involved for something to be sensual. People are conditioned to see sex, sensuality and the erotic in black-and-white extremes. One of the things BDSM practitioners enjoy about kink is how much it opens us up beyond conventional definitions of sex.

The Pink Feather
At a music festival recently, some flirtatious banter with a man about My boots somehow ended with Me offering him a sensual domination session with the pink ostrich feather adorning My rhinestone hat. He wasn’t interested in being trampled, but being the first to receive the grace of My feather? Apparently that I could sell him on.
He handed Me a wad of cash when we got to his yurt.
The scene was simple: some conversation, a bit of touch, and My pink feather gliding across his body. Oh, right, and My complete presence devoted to him too, of course! I never had him remove a single article of clothing.
Someone watching from the outside could have thought, She got paid to do practically nothing.
He knew what he’d received.
My submissives are not merely paying Me to perform a checklist of activities. They are paying for My time, yes, but also My presence and attention, My guidance and creativity, My energy and unique essence, and the experience I curate for them. Every Domme is different. Those who come to Me are attracted to what I have to offer.
Holding the Container as a Dominatrix
And part of what I offer is the ability to hold the container.
Even the most out-there requests tend to contain a root desire or core need I can hold space for, so long as the seeker is respectful, communicative and willing to honor boundaries. Most people have no idea what being a spaceholder means, and yet a great Dominant must know how to do it.
You cannot be a great Domme without attunement. That requires being sensitive enough to recognize what is occurring in another person while remaining grounded enough not to lose yourself inside of it. It also means being able to check in and communicate with them instead of operating off of assumptions or projections. You must be an empowered empath who honors both their boundaries and your own.
Someone may be playful and happy. Or cry. Or discover an emotion no one expected to surface. You don’t always know. A Dominant therefore has to be comfortable in the presence of another person’s vulnerability.
This is one reason I speak with every new submissive before we meet. Attunement begins before they even enter My chambers. Then they arrive, and immediately I am paying attention. I meet them where they are and begin sensing how I can lead them from there into My world.
I treat My submissives with an intimacy that is unusual to receive randomly in ordinary life. I notice them. Maybe you have beautiful hair. I love hair. If you arrive with a luscious head of it, I will probably be running My fingers through it in no time. Maybe you don’t. I’ll find something else about you that I enjoy “exploiting.” You came here to stop directing for a while.
Let Me.

Beyond the Dungeon
Sensuality and sensual domination are woven into My life just as much outside BDSM as within. I wasn’t raised this way. Sensuality became a practice I cultivated over years, and eventually a way of moving through the world. That story deserves an essay of its own. But some of what I learned outside the dungeon profoundly shapes what happens inside it—particularly ritual, attention to detail and the willingness to let an experience unfold rather than rushing toward its conclusion.
Ritual
Sensuality is enhanced by ritual. BDSM is filled with it. Ritual brings you into the moment. It marks a transition. It initiates. It says: we are leaving one state and entering another now. Putting on makeup can be ritual. So can bathing, preparing food, and putting restraints around someone’s wrists.
Some men come to Me specifically because they want access to forms of ritual and expression they rarely permit themselves elsewhere. Some want Me to dress them in feminine attire, sometimes makeup too. One of My fondest memories involves doing this to a young mechanic. Imagine My enjoyment getting to do this with a man whose everyday life asks him to inhabit such a conventionally masculine role. I love a good juxtaposition, and I love seeing people in their different “parts.” We have many, and the celebration of them is something I adore about BDSM.
You ought to have rituals of your own—not merely rituals drilled into you by religion, family or culture, but rituals that actually bring you alive.
The Crescendo
Sensuality requires patience. Only brutes rush everything.
Once upon a time I co-dommed with a man who did not have a knack for composing a sensual BDSM scene. The crescendo was missing. I stopped working with him. Major boner killer.
My craft is all about The Crescendo. You don’t go for the jugular fifteen minutes into an experience simply because you have a list of activities to complete. You allow the mind and body time to enter another state. There is pacing, anticipation, a rising and falling, moments of intensity and moments in which almost nothing appears to be happening. A great quickie even has a crescendo.
The point isn’t slowness merely for the sake of being slow. Speed can be delicious when speed is what the moment wants. The distinction is that speed unfolds naturally rather than being forced because somebody is impatient to reach an endpoint.
This is where being outcome-oriented kills sensuality. You are not waiting for the moment to be over so you can arrive at the “important” part. This is the important part. The build-up, pause and anticipation are part of the experience. Each is a worthy part of the whole story.
To sensually dominate another person, you must be willing to inhabit all of it. You must immerse yourself in your senses—all six of them. And yes, I said six. Call the sixth intuition, energy awareness, attunement. Whatever word allows you to understand that human beings perceive far more from one another than what can be itemized on a checklist.
A great Domme attunes to her submissive. She doesn’t merely do things to him.
She notices.

The Wardrobe & Tools Do Not Make the Dominant
Neither the wardrobe nor the toys make the Dominant, but great ones certainly enhance things.
The restraints I own are of fine quality: soft sheepskin that looks nearly as new as the day I acquired them in England nine years ago. They slide on with grace and continue to be pleasurable to put on others every time.
It is worth investing in quality goods. Material matters. Texture matters. Sound matters. The way an object moves through your hand matters.
Even when I rent dungeons I tend to bring a great deal of My own equipment because I’m often dissatisfied with what is available. I get downright annoyed when restraints don’t glide easily onto My submissive’s wrists, or when a crop looks, sounds and feels as though it came from My First BDSM Kit or a dusty adult video store.
At the end of the day though, the point isn’t materialism. It’s care.
Sensual domination is an art of details.

The practice of being a sensual Dominant is always teaching Me how to become an active participant in My own existence. It teaches Me to take responsibility for My energy and how I embody it and use it. It has taught Me to hold space for somebody else’s experience without controlling every part of what that experience must become. And it has taught Me that there is infinitely more available to us in an ordinary moment than we usually permit ourselves to receive.
I wasn’t raised this way. Sensuality was something I had to cultivate—sometimes intentionally, and sometimes because life rather unceremoniously forced Me to slow down enough to discover it. That is another story, and perhaps the natural next question: if sensuality is a practice, how does one become more sensual?
I’ll tell you how I did in a future post.
For now, perhaps this is what I ultimately want My submissives to carry home with them: not merely the memory of what Mistress Pomf did to them, but a deeper and more expansive connection to being alive, to sensation, to mindfulness, to themselves.
I want the experience to follow them into the shower the next morning, into their bed, their food, their drive home, the smell of trees after rain. Because the dungeon is one place to practice.
Life is where you integrate it.
And perhaps you have read all of this thinking, I don’t even know whether I’m kinky.
That’s fine. You don’t need to arrive with an encyclopedia of fetishes. You have a nervous system. You have senses. You have desires, curiosities, boundaries, apprehensions and places and parts within yourself you probably haven’t explored yet. That’s plenty to begin with.

Some people come to Me craving novelty. Some crave feminine touch. Some are exhausted from being in control. Some want ritual. Some want challenge. Some want care. Some want escape as My bossy commands flutter past My perfectly painted red lips telling them what to do. Some want to discover what they like because they genuinely don’t know yet. And some simply want to be guided somewhere they cannot quite take themselves alone.
That is where I come in.
If you’ve spent this entire essay wondering what it would feel like to stop reading about sensual domination and actually surrender yourself to the experience of it, perhaps it’s time you found out.
